Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Lady Bears Beat McIntosh

McIntosh High School traveled to Griffin on Thursday to battle the Lady Bears in a region softball contest and left with a 5-4 loss.  The win improved the Lady Bears overall record to 2-3 on the season and their region record to 2-1.

Macie Lopez went 2 for 2 on the day with a run batted in and a run scored to lead the hitting attack for the home team.  Also, Joia Keys, Judy Blalock, Asha Flemister, Kamryn Fulghum, Ozekia Wilder, and Desia Hamm collected a hit for Griffin.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 2nd when Griffin was able to push across two runs.  Macie Lopez scored on an error by the third baseman and Flemister later scored on a fielder’s choice.  In the top of the third McIntosh would score their first run of the game courtesy of a GHS error.  Griffin would answer in the bottom of the third with a run of their own to push the lead to 3-1.  Judy Blalock who singled would score on a Hannah Turner sacrifice fly.  The score would remain tied until the top of the 5th where McIntosh would score two runs to tie the game at 3-3.  The Lady Bears would not let the tie last long as they scored two runs to answer in the bottom of the 5th to retake the lead 5-3.  Keys would lead off the inning with a single, and that was followed by Blalock reaching on an error to put runners at first and second with no outs.  Following a strikeout Lopez would deliver a single to score Keys and move Blalock to third and she would score on the throw.  MHS would score a single run in the top of the 6th to cut the lead to one at 5-4, but that would be as close as they could get.  Jessie Bloodworth would retire the side in order in the seventh to record the complete game victory.  Bloodworth threw seven innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks.  She also ended the game with five strikeouts.

The Lady Bears will be playing in Locust Grove on Saturday in the Strong Rock tournament.  They will return home on Tuesday in a region contest with Riverdale with first pitch slated for 5:30.
