Bears News · Brandon Calloway and Prince Alfred Green Named to Sports Illustrated All-American Watch List

Congratulations to Brandon Calloway and Prince Alfred Green! They were named to Sports Illustrated All-American Watch List for the 2020 Football Season.

The following is excerpt from the SI Article Dated July 15, 2020.

Eighty-four high school football players from the state of Georgia are on the watch list for the Sports Illustrated All-American team for 2020, SI announced today.

“There are two significant storylines coming out of Georgia right now with this class of high school seniors,” said SI director of football recruiting John Garcia, Jr.. “First is the volume of talent. Traditionally, the big three states in every recruiting cycle are Texas, Florida and California. Georgia is now No. 3 ahead of California. The second trend with Georgia is the amount of talent in the secondary — the group is loaded and, generally speaking, they’re big physically, which matches the trend we’re seeing in the NFL with DBs who are 6-feet or taller.”

With 84 student-athletes on the list,Georgia ranks third among states with the most SI All-American candidates behind Florida (142) and Texas (129). After Georgia, the top 10 rounds out with California (79), North Carolina (55), Alabama (44), Ohio (37), Virginia (31), Michigan (30) and Maryland (28).

Prospect: Brandon Calloway
Status: SI All-American candidate
Vitals: 6-foot-2, 175 pounds
School: Griffin (Ga.)
Committed to: Purdue
Projected Position: Cornerback
Frame: Long, solid-framed cornerback with room to add mass and play with more physicality.Athleticism: Uses length and ball skills to create problems for receivers down the field. Plays through the ball but does not have elite speed. He is still able to create opportunities when he forces a takeaway, with reach and ball skills.

Instincts: Does not always trust instincts in the passing game, but when he does, he finds himself in position to make a play. He reads plays well in the run game and offers solid run support from outside in.

Polish: Calloway is not the most polished defensive back in the country, but he has a high ceiling with his frame and ball skills. He hasn’t worked through a lot of cover concepts through his junior year in high school but will be a factor on special teams early in his career.

Bottom Line: Calloway is an intriguing prospect who has all of the measurables to play cornerback at the next level. He does not receive a lot of work at the high school level at the position, but he will become more complete as he dives into coverage concepts and fills out in a college strength and conditioning program.

Prospect: Prince Green
Status: SI All-American candidate
Vitals: 6-foot-2, 190 pounds
Position: Wide Receiver/Cornerback
School: Griffin (Ga.)
Committed to: Illinois
Projected Position: Cornerback

Frame: Long, Well-distributed athlete with a frame that can add weight with ease as needed.

Athleticism: Green is a raw athlete with a desirable frame. He has excellent length, and he displays solid top-end speed. Reports a 4.54 40-yard dash time. He is a two-way athlete who appears to have a higher ceiling on the defensive side of the ball.

Instincts: He relies on his athleticism, especially on the defensive side of the ball. As he focuses on the position, the game should become more natural to him.

Polish: Raw athlete with more than desirable measurables, his length and top-end speed are the biggest factors in his game. As he becomes more natural with his instincts he should see an uptick in production.

Bottom Line: Green is a long, athletic prospect with plenty of room to grow in his game. His frame will allow him to have multiple opportunities at the college level. He could see increased interest from Power 5 coaches this fall if he flashes a more refined technique on either side of the ball.
